What solar battery storage actually does
A home battery stores leftover solar generation so you use it in the evening instead of buying peak-rate units. On some tariffs it also stores cheap overnight electricity. It does not create power on its own. Without panels, you are shifting cheap units. With panels, you are keeping more of what the roof makes.
iHeat sell three routes: solar only from £4,295, solar plus battery from £6,145, and battery only from £3,645. Heatable sell the battery with PV and print a cash price in the 3D tool. Their named units are Alpha ESS, Sigenergy and Tesla Powerwall 3. You draw the roof, then add storage if the array is worth it. Full panel prices sit on solar panel cost.

iHeat’s most-popular combined row is solar plus battery from £6,145 (All Black 450W + Hanchu 3.7kWh). Battery-only from £3,645 is the standalone option if the roof is not ready, or if you already have panels. They are an Octopus Trusted Partner and a Which? Trusted Trader. MCS certified installation, which you need for SEG export payments if you also have PV.
Heatable batteries (sold with PV)
Heatable print a cash price once you draw the roof. Last floors we logged in the tool on 20 August evening were Alpha from £5,690, Sigenergy 9.04kWh from £6,100, and Powerwall 3 from £7,595. We did not reopen the tool this morning. Use the live figure, not that snapshot. The path is the same 3D roof tool as their solar quote. Batteries they name on heatable.co.uk/solar:
- Alpha ESS. Expandable storage up to 48kWh on their copy, Octopus integration, heated cells, optional full-home backup.
- Sigenergy. Modular storage, hybrid inverter options, EV charger integration, full-home backup on their copy.
- Tesla Powerwall 3. 13.5kWh, integrated inverter, Gateway backup, Tesla app.
Hardware pitch on the panels is LONGi Hi-MO X10 485W, microinverters, MCS #NAP-68602. “Pay nothing ’til 2027” on their solar page is 0% VAT marketing (relief currently to 31 March 2027), not a grant and not a payment holiday we can treat as 0% APR. Scaffolding is not in the online quote, typically about £500 to £750 on their FAQ. A standard install with battery is 1 to 2 days on site, fully fitted in as little as four weeks on the marketing line.

Payback, VAT and what people mix up
Payback is not a single year. It depends on your tariff, how much you use in the evening, whether you can charge overnight, and the size of the array. iHeat’s solar page talks about £1,000+ potential annual savings on solar plus battery from £6,145. That is their marketing figure, not a promise on every terrace. Heatable say solar plus battery can cut electricity bills by as much as 90% in the right house. Use the quote tool, not the headline.
- No BUS on solar or batteries. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a heat-pump grant. Separate page: Boiler Upgrade Scheme UK.
- Warm Homes: Local Grant can include solar for qualifying households in England. Council-led. Check GOV.UK.
- 0% VAT on qualifying solar supply-and-install until 31 March 2027, then expected to rise (industry expectation is 5%, confirm on the live GOV.UK VAT note when you order). Battery-only may sit on a different VAT line. Ask the quote.
- SEG, not FIT. The feed-in tariff has ended. Export payments are Smart Export Guarantee, which needs MCS and a smart meter. A battery reduces what you export, which is the point if evening units cost more than SEG pays.
- iHeat 0% is boilers and heat pumps, not solar. Solar finance on their page is from 9.9% APR.
If you are pricing a heat pump at the same time, start on air source heat pump cost. Heatable sell both. The quotes are different tools.
- Want to see the roof: Heatable 3D tool first, then add Alpha ESS, Sigenergy or Powerwall 3.
- Want a public number today: iHeat from £3,645 battery-only or £6,145 solar plus battery.
- Need finance: iHeat from 9.9% APR. Do not expect boiler 0%.
- Already have panels: iHeat battery-only is the public standalone. Heatable still want the 3D / design path.
- Planning: most houses are permitted development. Listed, conservation and flats are the usual exceptions. Both firms say they check.

MCS matters if you want SEG export payments on a solar-plus-battery job and a certifiable install. Heatable is MCS NAP-68602. iHeat’s solar page states MCS certified installation. Battery-only on an existing array still needs a competent, insured installer. Ask the quote what certificate you get.
